hello and welcome to JROTC I am retired army First Sergeant David Dowell and I'm one of two instructors in the JROTC program Lieutenant Colonel Brandon McKiernan is the senior Army instructor and I am the primary structure for all first-year jail we are decided that you have decided to be a part of this program and I would like to take the opportunity to tell you a little bit more about this class JROTC is a regular class that you will attend each day as part of your academic schedule j r o t c to receive one Practical Art credit and 1/4 b e credit for each year that you take this class JROTC is it leadership development and citizenship class designed to help you develop and meet both short-term and long-term academic and career you may be preparing for college planning to enter the military as an enlisted Soldier or commissioned officer or planning to enter the workforce upon graduation from high school regardless of your plans we believe JROTC can help you become a productive member of the community and help prepare you to achieve your career goals you will learn about military customs and courtesies team-building personal growth strategies communication skills values at the drill and ceremony physical fitness and host other topics that will help you reach your goals the classroom for skin is the only required part of JROTC however there are a lot of opportunities to get involved in this program including our competitive drill team Raider physical fitness team rifle marks 15 as well as opportunities to present the colors at school and community events and to participate in community service service learning projects and to work side-by-side with Community leaders and military veterans there is no fee to take class each student will be provided the charity see uniform textbooks and any other material required for course completion we have high expectations of our students but we will assist you in meeting with expectations and we will strive to meet your expectation well if you would like to know more about me and my background please review my bio located on this page I have also linked the class syllabus for you to look at and find more details about JROTC if you have any questions please feel free to email me and I will get back to you as soon as possible welcome to high school and welcome to j r o t c
